๐ซ Trendsetting with Stevenson High School
Stevenson High School is a nationally ranked public high school serving over 4,600 students in suburban Chicago. With a vibrant student body and a sprawling campus, the school offers hundreds of clubs, events, and programs โ all of which rely on smooth operations behind the scenes.
One of the most logistically complex parts of the school year? Student parking.
๐ง The Challenge
Stevenson needed to manage 1,500 limited parking spaces for seniors only โ broken into three terms (Fall, Winter, Spring), with specific rules:
- Students could purchase 1 or 2 terms, but never all three
- Each student could register 2 vehicles for spot - so security guards could issue tickets to violators.
- Each parking spot could only be purchased once, so none were oversold.
- Only registered seniors were eligible, and student ID was required
- Manual processes led to confusion, over-allocation, and hours of staff time chasing payments or checking lists
There was also a need to support daily parking at Port Clinton, where students could purchase $5 passes โ but only if spots were still available.
๐ The Omella Solution
With Omella, Stevenson built a fully digital parking page for both term-based and daily passes:
- Equality: All students had a fair chance to pick a spot, on a first come first serve basis.
- Inventory-limited checkout: Students could only select from available spots, preventing overbooking
- ID validation: Forms were gated by student ID to ensure eligibility
- Real-time availability: As spots filled, they became unavailable instantly
- Clear maps and instructions: Embedded visual guides helped students select the right lot
- Automated waitlists: If a term sold out, students could opt-in to be notified if more spots opened
- Reporting: Staff could track who bought what, when, and for which term โ instantly
For daily parking, the system allowed students to purchase passes for specific dates up to 15 times per month. Each date dynamically updated with availability (e.g., โ83 remainingโ), helping enforce rules and reduce violations.
๐ The Results
โItโs the smoothest our parking process has ever been. Weโre not chasing down payments or fixing spreadsheet errors. Omella just works.โ
